FAQ
This section of the site answers questions which students often ask before they come to the school.

Homestay

Q:Homestay - when do we arrive?
A: Students should arrive on Sunday and leave on Saturday or Sunday. Accommodation is paid for in units of one week. No reduction can be made for part of a week. If you cancel or leave ELC accommodation without giving at least seven days' notice, a charge of £57.50 in 2010 will be made.

Q: How do we pay?
A: Most students prefer to pay their homestay direct at the rate of £115 in 2010 per week.  However, it is possible to pay your homestay costs with your tuition fees and accommodation placement fee of £40 direct to ELC but this must be for the whole period of your stay. Please complete the relevant section on the application form.

Q: Do we have to pay an accommodation placement fee?

A:  Yes, if we arrange accommodation for you, you will be charged the sum of £40.

Q:Can I stay with my hostfamily over Christmas and New Year?

A: Yes, as long as this will be possible, you will be asked to pay a supplement of £115 to help cover the extra costs incurred over the festive holidays.

Q: What can I expect my host family to be like?
A: It is important to understand that a "homestay family" does not always consist of 2 parents with children.  A couple or a widow(er) whose children have grown up and left home often make excellent "homestay families".

Q: Will I have my own room and somewhere to study?
A: You will be given your own room (unless you ask to share with a friend). Your room should contain a chair, table and lamp suitable for studying, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers or dressing table.

Q: Will my host family be expecting me?
A: Please let your host family know approximately when you will be arriving, to ensure that they will be home to welcome you.  Alternatively, you could tell us and we will pass this information on to your host family.

Q: What meals will my host family provide?
A: Your host family will give you breakfast and an evening meal each day of the week. If there is something you cannot eat because of your health or for religious reasons, please let us know at the time of booking to help us to find you a suitable host family.

Q: Will there be other students of the same mother tongue staying in the host family?
A: You should be the only student guest from your country. If there are other students in the family they should not be from countries which speak the same language as you. This is a very strict rule made by ELC, and we will find you other accommodation immediately if this rule is broken by the host family.

Q: Host family accommodation is arranged by ELC from Sunday to Sunday. Can I arrive on a different day?
A: As the majority of our students arrive and leave on a Sunday, family accommodation can be arranged only on a "back to back" basis; this is particularly important during the summer months.

Q: Will my host family meet me at the airport?
A: Your host family will be waiting for you at home. However, if you would like to use ELC's airport transfer service, please let us know.
